29 Nov 2024 - NIGHT - Dyker Heights lights

Update number two for 29 November!
This evening, we returned back to downtown Manhattan and met up with the tour group one last time. Tonight, our guide took us across the East River and in to downtown Brooklyn to visit the suburb of Dyker Heights, an affluent suburb that goes all out at Christmas time!
There were people ALL over the place, and police directing traffic at every intersection around the two main blocks of houses that light up - so bright I'm certain they can be seen from space!
Without further ado, here are the photos!
One of the brightest lights (pardon the pun) in the neighbourhood is Lucy Spata - here's a brief story about her:

After enjoying all these decorations, we were back on the bus and driven in to DUMBO where we got the see the Empire State Building perfectly framed by the Manhattan Bridge!
Then we took a short walk on the the banks of the river and took in the Manhattan skyline. It's such a beautiful city!
Then we got back on the bus and headed back to the tour group's hotel for a final toast and farewell. This is the view from the rooftop bar!
And that was our guided tour over the last five days! We made some friends along the way, and had an absolute ball! If you do come to NYC at Christmas time, I can't recommend Marco and Dora from My Christmas In New York more highly! They are absolutely second to none!
I also highly recommend Jen From The City, who is just like the Energizer Bunny! There is no stopping her, and she is so much fun! She is always looking for FFF (Fun, Fantastic and Free) things to do in NYC and she LOVES a black and white cookie! She hosts tours all year round, specialising in Central Park, but she also helps Marco with the Christmas tours. Tell her Scott and Lizzie from Australia sent you!
Finally, Kelly Kopp from New York City Kopp is an absolute superstar and a gentleman to boot! What he doesn't know about the subway simply isn't worth knowing. He also hosts tours all year round, but is employed by Marco to help with the Christmas tours as well. He loves a joke as well (I got him good with referring to a cemetery in the outer 'burbs as the "dead centre" of Manhattan) and was once a professional photographer so can point you towards the best photo opportunities.
And there we have it - the tour is over, and from tomorrow we're are back to finding our own way around the Big Apple.
Stay tuned, folks - you aint seen nothin' yet!
