14 Dec 2024 - The Big Dinner!

Post by Scott »

This morning was a bit of downtime for me going through photos and drafting updates to the blog, whilst Lizzie went out and got her Christmas fingernails done!

Three hours it took! Ladies, I don't know if this is normal, but how do you do it???

I have to admit though, the time was absolutely worth it - they look great!

When Lizzie got home, we had to get ourselves ready for our big dinner with Laura, Lynn, Peter and the parents of Lynn and Peter's daughter in law, Marcello and Valerie who are native New Yorkers.

Laura came to meet us at our apartment and we walked downtown to meet the others at a rooftop bar for pre-dinner drinks. I had being trying to trick everyone by speaking with what I thought was a New York accent...when I met Valerie, she met me with a very thick "How you doin'?" which very quickly put me in my place and my New York accent to shame!

We then walked down to Radio City Music Hall and in to a restaurant called Del Frisco's Grille (remember that restaurant I was less than glowing of when eating my halal food?) where Marcello had booked us a table "with a great view". They were incredibly busy and despite repeated visits to the maitre d, there was no table forthcoming. We waited for about 30 minutes then all of a sudden we were off to our table. No sooner than we had all sat down, we had entrees being laid out on the table in front of us! Nobody had had time to order, so I thought they must have gotten the wrong table for an order - no...the substantial plates of entrees were on the house because of the mix up with our table!

The food was absolutely delicious! Like, SERIOUSLY good! Meatballs that melted in the mouth, crab cakes that were silky smooth, thick peppered bacon strip that was salty and smoky, sweet bread pull apart loaves that were sublime!

Then we chased that all down with steaks! Lizzie and I had 16 ounce (about 450 gram) boneless ribeye steaks that were seriously the best steaks we have ever had! At $66 USD (about $105 AUD) each they certainly weren't cheap but oh my Lord, they were just melt-in-the-mouth! Even the fat on them was delicious!

I promise never to hang the proverbial on this place again when I'm eating halal outside!

It was a fantastic night with really wonderful people. Marcello and Valerie were an absolute delight, and I can certainly see why Lynn and Peter speak so highly of them. Lizzie and I thoroughly enjoyed the night and went home full and happy!
